Engine Immobilized/Mobilized
Vehicle engine will be immobilized when anti-theft system is armed or alarm system enters passive immobilization mode (anti-theft system does not have to be armed). Engine will be immobilized and engine cranking will be disabled. Engine immobilization is controlled using the Engine Control Module (ECM) and BECM. When a crank signal is detected while engine is immobilized, an ENGINE IMMOBILIZED message will be displayed on instrument panel message center and engine will not start.
Passive immobilization mode will be activated under the following conditions:
- After 30-second period, when ignition has been turned off and driver's door has been opened.
- After 30-second period, when ignition has been turned off, key was removed, and driver's door has been opened.
- After 10-minute period, when ignition has been turned off and key was removed (driver's door not opened).
- Transmitter is desynchronized or is malfunctioning.
Vehicle engine can be mobilized by turning ignition on (transmitter must be functioning properly and be in close proximity to key), pressing unlock button on transmitter, or entering Emergency Key Access (EKA) code. See EMERGENCY KEY ACCESS . If passive immobilization mode is entered by a malfunctioning transmitter, an ENGINE DISABLED, PRESS REMOTE message will be displayed on instrument panel message center. To mobilize engine, EKA code must be entered and transmitter must be repaired and resynchronized.
Passive immobilization coil, located in steering column, creates a magnetic field. The magnetic field excites a receiving coil in the transmitter, which then transmits a mobilization signal to BECM. Vehicle will remain immobilized if BECM does not receive this signal.
Theft alarm LED will light continuously for 10 seconds after a lock request to provide visual confirmation of lock status. After 10-second period, it will flash at a slow rate. When an intrusion is detected, alarm horn will sound and visual indicators will flash. Audible alarm will either be continuous or pulse (synchronized with visual flashers). Visual indicators will be hazard lights, parking and taillights, or headlights and taillights.
