Timer Unit: Description and Operation

Vehicle Component Locations:

A timer relay is used to inhibit the distributor vacuum advance for 45 seconds after each engine start up. This is done to obtain a faster catalytic convertor "light off". The timer relay operates a solenoid vacuum valve that ports the distributor vacuum line to atmosphere, defeating ignition timing advance.
