Tools Required

J 43094  Spark Plug Boot Puller

  1. Remove the ignition coil assembly bolts.
    CAUTION: Do not damage the ignition coil assembly perimeter seal.
  2. Lift the ignition coil assembly out of the camshaft cover valley.

    CAUTION: Use only the spark plug boot special removal tool to remove spark plug boots. Prying or using regular pliers could damage the boots.
  3. Remove the spark plug boots using the J 43094.

  4. Remove the spark plugs.
  5. Inspect the spark plugs to gain an understanding of the engines operating characteristics.

  6. Inspect the ignition coil assembly terminals for excessive pitting or damage. Replace if necessary.
  7. Inspect the spark plug boots for cuts, tears or visible damage. Replace if necessary.
  8. If all components are acceptable, press the spark plug boots back onto the coil assembly and store in a secure location.
