Catalytic Converter: Testing and Inspection


Warning System Test

1. Turn ignition switch to "On" position. The warning lamp should illuminate, indicating that the bulb and electrical wiring are satisfactory. If lamp does not light, check bulb.

2. Start engine and if the system is satisfactory, the warning lamp should go out. If not, stop engine and tilt the seatback forward.

3. Disconnect the catalytic converter thermo sensor electrical connectors, Fig. 31.

4. With an ohmmeter, check the circuit on the thermo sensor side of the wiring for continuity, Fig. 31. Replace the thermo sensor if the reading indicates no continuity.
