Test 29A - Identifying Faulty Warning Lamp

NOTE: Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
  1. Ensure parking brake is released and all doors are closed. Start engine. If an oil pressure or engine temperature gauge problem exists, turn engine off, turn ignition on and go to TEST 26A . If no oil pressure or engine temperature gauge problem exists, go to next step.
  2. Turn engine off and turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select SEQUENTIAL LAMP test. Sequential lamp test should turn each warning lamp on and then off, one at a time (test passes). If sequential lamp test fails, go to step 5). If sequential lamp test passes, go to next step.
  3. Determine which lamp is operating incorrectly and perform corresponding test indicated in WARNING LAMP TEST table. If appropriate lamp is not listed in WARNING LAMP TEST table, go to next step.
    WARNING LAMP TEST

    Lamp Perform Test
    Brakelamp TEST 30A
    Seat Belt Lamp TEST 31A
    Malfunction Indicator Lamp (1) *
    Anti-Lock Brake Lamp (2) *
    (1) See appropriate BODY CONTROL COMPUTER.
    (2) See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  4. Using scan tool, select SEQUENTIAL LEGENDS test. Test fails if any legend fails to glow or 2 glow together. If sequential legends test fails, replace instrument cluster. If sequential legends test passes, system is operating properly at this time.
  5. Remove and inspect inoperative warning lamp bulb from instrument cluster. If bulb is defective, replace bulb. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster.
