Removal Procedure

    CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.
    CAUTION: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 .
  2. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  3. Rotate the steering wheel 1/2 turn in order to access the screws to the steering wheel inflator module at the back of the steering wheel.
  4. Use a T30 TORX® in order to remove the inflator module screws.
  5. Gently pull the inflator module from the steering wheel.

  7. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the yellow SIR electrical connector.
  8. Disconnect the yellow SIR electrical connector from the steering wheel inflator module.

  10. Disconnect the horn ground lead from the steering wheel.

  12. Rotate the horn contact lead (2) counterclockwise 1/4 turn in order to remove the horn contact lead from the steering column shaft tower.
  13. Remove the steering wheel inflator module.
  14. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .
