Electronic Ignition Modules: Installation

  1. Inspect coil pack seals and spark plug boots for damage or wear. Replace as necessary. Align spark plug boots with spark plugs. Carefully press and seat coil pack in place.
  2. Install coil pack retainer bolts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Connect electrical connector to coil pack.
  3. Connect electrical connector to right knock sensor pigtail. See Figure . Position ECM and bracket to engine. Install ECM bracket bolts to cylinder head and intake plenum. Tighten ECM bracket bolts in sequence to specification. See Figure .
  4. Install bolt securing coolant inlet pipe to ECM bracket. Tighten coolant inlet pipe support bolt to specification. Carefully align harness connectors with ECM connectors. Guide connectors into place while moving release levers to locked position. See Figure .
  5. Install the screw securing ECM ground wire to ECM. Tighten ECM ground wire screw to specification. Install 2 bolts securing afterboil coolant pump to ECM bracket. Tighten afterboil coolant pump bolts to specification. Connect 2 cable harness clips securing engine wiring harness to ECM bracket.
  6. Insert chassis hose/pipes into retainer located at ECM bracket. See Figure . Close retainer. Connect EVAP quick connect fitting. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS  .
  7. Connect feed hose/pipe and return hose/pipe quick connect fittings to fuel rail. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS  .


  1. Inspect coil pack seals and spark plug boots for damage or wear. Replace as necessary. Align spark plug boots with spark plugs. Carefully press and seat coil pack in place.
  2. Install coil pack retainer bolts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Connect electrical connector to coil pack.
  3. Install remote power steering reservoir mounting bolts and tighten to specification. See Figure .
  4. Connect vacuum brake booster hose and wiring harness to the remote power steering reservoir. Connect vacuum brake booster hose to vacuum source. Install oil filler spout by twisting clockwise and snapping in place.
